Dancetheatre David Earle joins the Penderecki String Quartet at the Perimeter Institute’s Quantum to Cosmos Festival on Friday October 16, 2009.
“Quantifying Goethe” is a multi-disciplinary evening that examines Wolfgang von Goethe’s influence to literature, music, science and physics. The program features live music, dance, interactive video, electronics, and a quantum computer. The program will be broadcast on Canadian Television via TVO , and around the world on the Q2C website .
The first piece, “Fünf Stätze” for String Quartet, Op.5 (1909) composed by Anton von Webern, features a video design by Laura DeDecker.
Next will be the world premiere of composer Kotoka Suzuki’s “Vestigia” for string quartet. It features dance by DtDE, interactive video and a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) computer from the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo.
The PSQ will be joined by guest artist Roman Borys of the Gryphon Trio for the final work of the evening, “Quintet for Strings in C Major”, D 956 (1828) by composer Franz Schubert.
An introduction will be provided from physicist and author Gino Segrè .
The performance is part of the opening weekend of a 10-day event that celebrates the world of theoretical physics, from subatomic particles to the outer reaches of the universe, through guest lectures, exhibits and multimedia and cultural presentations.
